Overview
Ficus Bonsai (Ficus retusa, Ficus microcarpa and related figs) is a tropical fig with glossy leaves, forgiving roots and strong back-budding. It is best suited to beginners, indoor bonsai, aerial-root styles, informal upright and banyan designs. For UK growers, treat it as: Indoor in the UK, outdoor in warm summer weather.
Placement
very bright light with some direct sun; keep close to a bright window or use a grow light in winter
Watering
water thoroughly when the top of the soil begins to dry; avoid leaving the pot standing in water

repot every 2-3 years in spring when the tree is actively growing
Propagation
cuttings root readily in warm, humid conditions; air layering is also possible
